Linking Pieces of Equipment

May 8/05.. Geoff & Bill

We link pieces of equipment in the computer system whenever we physically attach them to each other. For instance, when we sell a generator set, we are not selling a separate engine and generator--we are selling a 'generator set'

Units must be linked before they are invoiced. Otherwise it's a mess that takes the accounting dept a lot of work to clean up.

Units are linked in a chain, starting from the front and going back.

Notice that PowerTowers are the only type of equipment where the engine is not the first unit. PowerTowers are a special case--they are their own product line, with a variety of generator options. This allows us to keep them together, no matter what type of genset is inside.

To link equipment using Intranet > Equipment > Edit equipment

You will see the link results (and if there are any problems) in a box at the right of the screen.

To link equipment using Foxpro > Equipment > Add/edit equipment

So all but the last item will have a serial number in the 'next unit' field. All but the lead unit will be 'driven'

You can only link and un-link equipment before it is invoiced.

To un-link equipment, clear out the "Driven" checkbox and the "Next unit" serial number fields in all pieces of equipment.
