The Lombardini USA Inc. warranty program includes a general three(3) year/ 3000 hour limited warranty covering all Lombardini air cooled(non-traffic control)and liquid cooled diesel engines. Further, a two(2) year unlimited hours limited warranty is offered for ARROWBOARD applications and a one(1) year unlimited hour limited warranty is offered for MESSAGE BOARD applications. Please see the following warranty certificates for complete details of the three(3) separate warranty types. All Lombardini USA Inc. warranties cover only materials and workmanship defects.
All of the separate warranty types carry specific limitations as is detailed within the respective warranty certificates. The end-user is expected to properly maintain the given Lombardini diesel product and the OEM is expected to properly apply the Lombardini diesel products within a given machine. An application review procedure has been adopted to insure proper application of our Lombardini products within OEM machines and must be completed as a condition of warranty. Lombardini gladly accepts our responsibility to provide our customers with defect free diesel engines and we stand ready to correct materials and workmanship defects as is detailed within our warranty certificates.
We must however, in the interest of controlling overall costs, make sure that all warranty expenditures are the result of actual materials and workmanship defects and not the result of abuse, lack of maintenance, etc. Therefore, our Service Network is expected to represent Lombardini towards providing proper warranty administration for our collective customers. The customer should be able to expect prompt warranty repairs of Lombardini products if a material or workmanship defect is identified. The Authorized Lombardini Service Center must then identify warrantable situations according to the guidelines presented in the following.
Warranties and Limitations on Liability:
A. Lombardini diesel engines originally sold by Lombardini USA Inc. or an authorized Distributor/ Dealer thereof and shipped from Lombardini USA Inc. stock after January 1, 1996, that are applied, installed and operated within the United States of America or Canada and application reviewed following Lombardini USA Inc. policy are covered by a limited warranty for a period of three(3) years or 3000 hours of operation- first occurrence. The three(3) year warranty period begins on the date of original/ first purchase by the end user or two(2) years from date of Lombardini USA Inc. invoice to the original equipment manufacturer or Lombardini sales outlet- first occurrence. Lombardini USA Inc., warrants their product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for the time/ hour period detailed above and the limitations presented in the following. The three(3) year limited warranty is divided into two(2) separate stages- Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 of the three(3) year/ 3000 hour warranty ends at one(1) year or 1500 hours of operation- first occurrence. The first year warranty covers parts and labor expense related to materials or workmanship related failures. Lombardini USA Inc. will be the sole judge of warrantability. Stage 2 of the three(3) year/ 3000 hour limited warranty begins at 1500 hours of operation or the beginning of the second year, whichever occurs first and ends with 3000 hours of operation or three(3) years- first occurrence. During the Stage 2 period, Lombardini will cover parts expense only on materials or workmanship related failures. Lombardini USA Inc. will be the sole judge of warrantability. Only "Major Engine Components" are covered under the Stage 2 (1500-3000 hour/ second and third year) limited warranty. Lombardini USA Inc. strongly recommends that each Lombardini diesel engine is registered. Registration cards are available from the Lombardini USA Inc. literature department. Registration of each engine assists us in tracking the location of each engine and allows us to work with the local Lombardini Distributor toward supporting the customer with adequate spare parts supply. Further, the registration information assists Lombardini USA Inc. with warranty administration.
Service coverage and warranty repair of Lombardini products within the United States and Canada is handled on several levels based upon the Distribution and system. Please review the following:
ENGINE SALES
a. Lombardini USA Inc. sells Lombardini products to Distributors and OEMs.
b. Lombardini USA Inc. Distributors sell Lombardini products to Dealers and DOEMs.
WARRANTY REPAIRS
Only Lombardini USA Inc. Authorized Distributors, Dealers and OEM dealers may perform warranty repairs. Warranty repairs must be performed following Lombardini USA Inc. service policies. Only the Distributor however, is authorized to submit warranty claims to Lombardini USA Inc.. Dealers and OEM Dealers must submit warranty claims to the local Distributor.
SERVICE TRAINING
Distributors- Lombardini USA Inc., will train Authorized Distributors shortly after a Distributor agreement is finalized.
Dealers (Service Dealers)- Authorized Lombardini Distributors are responsible for the service training of Dealers.
OEM Dealers- OEM dealers will be trained by Lombardini USA Inc. on a National basis. OEM dealers may not administer warranty until trained and certified by Lombardini USA Inc.
The warranty system begins after an Authorized Service Facility (Also referred to as a Warranty Station) is notified by the customer or Lombardini USA Inc., informing of a potential warranty situation. At all times during the service support period, the customer should be treated respectfully. The goal of the warranty system is problem rectification. Therefore, we must work with the customer toward establishing good relationships and repeat business. A warranty situation is always an opportunity for the Authorized Service Location to both support Lombardini products and develop business relationships. The Authorized Service Facility is responsible for the following:
a. Assist the customer in determining
the actual engine problem and a plan for rectification.
b. Determine whether or not the given
engine is within the warranty period- time or operational hours specific with
respect to the 3-year general warranty, 2-year Arrowboard warranty or 1-year
Message Board Warranty.
c. Schedule repairs, instructing the customer to transport (if possible- see below) the engine and/or equipment to the repair facility. The customer should supply to you, proof of sale and any other pertinent service records required.
d. After inspection of the engine
problem, warrantability must be determined. Is the failure a workmanship or
materials defect? Should any questions remain unanswered regarding the
potential warranty, Lombardini USA Inc. should be contacted.
e. If the problem is determined to be
warrantable, repair the engine following the guidelines presented below, then
complete all necessary warranty forms. Submit the warranty forms to Lombardini
USA Inc.
f. If the problem is not warrantable,
contact the customer and explain in a diplomatic manner the cause of the
failure. Every effort should be made to rectify the engine problem in a manner
satisfactory to the customer. During contact with the customer, make payment
arrangement for all non-warranty repairs, parts and travel. If the failure
could have been prevented, the Authorized Service Facility should conference
with the customer explaining how future failures can be avoided.
What is covered under this warranty?
Any materials or workmanship defects identified with the limitations of the respective warranty type will be covered under warranty.
What is not covered under this warranty?
Warranty will not be granted for engine failure modes other than material or workmanship defects. Any failures to the engine found to be other than materials or workmanship defects will be the responsibility of the customer. Several, but not all potential failure modes that are not related to materials or workmanship defects have been identified within the respective warranty certificate. In short, if the engine failure was caused by any of the potential failure modes identified within the warranty certificate, no warranty will be granted. Further, any engine failures found to be caused by anything other than material or workmanship defects, will not be covered under warranty. Please review the following non-warrantable failure modes as are primarily detailed within the warranty certificate:
Fair wear and tear, damage due to the use of any de-compression device during operation, damage due to poor quality service or incorrect failure analysis or incorrect troubleshooting, Failures deemed to be due to: poor maintenance, lack of normal maintenance, improper storage, modification, mis-use, mis-application, failure to perform required scheduled maintenance, engine overheating not the result of materials or workmanship defects, water entrance into the engine, the use of anti-freeze concentrations greater than 50%, the use of any starting aid or fluid, abuse, accidents, improper handling, the use of non-Lombardini supplied/ approved service parts or repairs and the effects/ damage of vibration/ fatigue- torsional or linear are not covered under this warranty. Further, any damage to fuel injection equipment due to water, contaminates or abrasive material ingestion, any engine damage due to the entrance of contaminates past the engine air filter, any engine damage due to electrical currents, shaft current or improper grounding of the electrical system- driven or otherwise, any engine damage due to the use of improper fuels, fluids or lubricants with respect to quality or prevailing ambient conditions are not covered under this warranty. Subsequent engine damage as the result of a component failure- workmanship/ materials related or not, incurred during unattended or non-attentive operation is not covered under this warranty. Service parts including, but not limited to filters, hoses, glow plugs, belts and fluids (oil, coolant, fuel) are not covered under this warranty. Further, the removal of engine tamper seals or failure to install and maintain an operating hour meter will be grounds for warranty rejection. Lombardini USA Inc., will not accept any liability or charges thereof for repairs or replacements made without authority. This warranty does not cover engine damage resulting from the improper installation, by parties other than Lombardini USA Inc., of Lombardini accessory kits or for damage(s) resulting from the use of aftermarket engine accessories. Transportation costs, subsequent damages, profit losses, inconvenience, commercial loss, consequential damages and the rental/ lease of replacement equipment during any repair process on our products is not covered under this warranty- nor does Lombardini accept any claims of such.
Who has the final determination of warrantability?
Lombardini USA Inc. has the last and final decision regarding warranty.
Warranty for non-Lombardini components
Parts not manufactured by Lombardini, will be subject to the warranty policies of the respective manufacturer. A list (not complete) of non-Lombardini components that may be fitted to a Lombardini diesel engine is included within the warranty certificate.
However, any non-Lombardini components, fitted to a Lombardini product by Lombardini, but failing to have North American representation, will be warranted by Lombardini USA Inc. Such components will be handled by standard warranty procedures.
On what basis is labor reimbursement determined?
All labor reimbursement is based upon Lombardini Flat Rate Manuals. Separate Flat Rate Manuals are provided for air cooled and liquid cooled products. The Flat Rate Manuals are available from the Lombardini USA literature department.
How is the labor reimbursement rate determined?
Lombardini USA Inc. desires to reimburse Authorized Service Facilities in a fair and efficient manner. We intend to reimburse the Authorized Service Facility so as to cover the costs associated with the warranty repair, but, we do not wish warranty to be an overly profitable endeavor for the Authorized Service Facility. As such, the Authorized Service Facility should submit to Lombardini USA Inc., on an annual basis, proof of the individual Authorized Service Facility standard shop rates. Proof of shop labor rates may be established by providing to Lombardini USA Inc., three(3) separate copies of invoices, to three(3) separate customers. Lombardini will reimburse labor charges based on the following schedule:
Distributors-80% of standard labor rate
Dealers-100% of standard labor rate
OEM Dealers-100% of standard or
pre-established shop rate
Engine
Removal & Replacement
Because of the diverse nature of engine applications, no allowance for engine removal and replacement is listed within the Lombardini Flat Rate Manuals. Lombardini USA Inc. will consider claims for engine removal and replacement. The actual reimbursement for engine removal and replacement will be based upon our discretion and the complexity of the application.
Warranty Repair Parts
Warranty repairs must always bring the engine within "std" Lombardini dimensional conformance. Lombardini USA Inc. does not allow the use of aftermarket spare parts or the use of oversize engine bearings, pistons or cylinders during warranty repairs. The use of aftermarket spare parts or non-standard (dimensionally) replacement parts may void the remaining warranty period and result in an immediate rejection of any warranty claims. In short, all warranty repairs must be carried out with genuine Lombardini Spare Parts.
Travel Time and Mileage
Lombardini strongly recommends that arrangements be made with the end user to allow transportation of a given machine to the Authorized Lombardini Service location. However, Lombardini realizes that certain machines cannot be transported. As such, travel to non-transportable equipment will be considered following direct contact with the Lombardini USA Inc. Service Department. As a general rule travel to non-mobile equipment, up to a 50 mile radius and not exceeding one(1) hour of travel time will be authorized without issue. However, special authorization will be required for travel outside the 50 mile/ one(1) hour guideline. Again however, Lombardini USA strongly recommends that equipment be transported to an authorized service location. Repairs done at a proper repair facility tend to be more exacting and are typically of higher quality.
In terms of warranty, travel and travel time will be reimbursed only if a materials or workmanship defect can be proven. Any travel resulting in repairs with root causes other than materials or workmanship defects will be the responsibility of the end user- both travels expenses and repair expenses.
Major Engine Failures
In certain cases, the cost of warranty repair can exceed 50% of the Authorized Service facility cost for a replacement engine. In such cases, direct Lombardini USA Inc. approval will be required before repairs are made. In such cases, the Service Department of Lombardini USA Inc. should be contacted. During the contact, please provide complete details of the engine model, engine spec., failure, application, accumulated hours, date of sale and engine serial number.
Lombardini USA Inc. will issue an "authorization number" for such repairs and provide specific instructions as to how the warranty failure should be handled. Upon warranty claim submittal, please include the "authorization number" in section 2 (see page 13) of the warranty claim.
Outside Labor and Material Charges
During some warranty repairs, outside services may be required. Examples of outside services would be the polishing of a crankshaft, machine work, line boring, etc.. Prior approval must be received from Lombardini USA Inc. before outside services are utilized. In certain cases, an approval number will be issued for such cases.
Upon warranty form submittal, include copies of all invoices regarding outside services.
Warranty Parts Return
UPDATE: May16/00.. Todd Allen at Lombardini USA told us to keep all failed parts at Frontier until Lombardini USA credits our account.
OLD INFO from manual: All components replaced during a warranty repair must be returned (prepaid) to Lombardini USA Inc. for inspection. Lombardini USA Inc. will refuse all COD shipments. Freight charges, within reason will be reimbursed as part of the warranty process. Examination of failed components is critical with regard to determining the warrantability of a given failure. Warranty claims submitted without shipment of the failed components will be subject to automatic rejection.
All returned components should be tagged with a "Returned Goods Tag". Lombardini USA Inc. "Returned Goods Tags" are available free of charge from the Service Department.
In the case of a major failure, contact Lombardini USA Inc. so that specific key components will be returned as a function of the failure type. DO NOT RETURN COMPLETE ENGINES unless directed to do so by Lombardini USA Inc. Any components not submitted to Lombardini USA Inc. must be held by the Authorized Service location until directed by Lombardini USA Inc. to scrap or return.
All components replaced under warranty are the property of Lombardini USA Inc.. Re-use or salvage of these components is prohibited.
Spare Parts Warranty
New spare parts will be subject to a 90 day warranty, beginning from the date of purchase. New spare parts are guaranteed to be free of defects in materials or workmanship.
Should spare parts be identified as defective, Lombardini USA Inc. should be contacted. Defective spare parts should be tagged with a "Returned Goods Tag" stating: Distributor Name, part number, Lombardini USA Inc. invoice number and the reason for return. Lombardini will, upon prepaid receipt of the defective parts, contact you and discuss the proper course of action based upon standard Lombardini USA Inc. Service Polices as presented herein. Reimbursement arrangements for reasonable return shipment expenses will be handled as part of the spare parts warranty process. No COD shipments will be accepted by Lombardini USA Inc.
Warranty Claim Reimbursement Schedule-
Distributors- Labor will be reimbursed at a rate consistent with 80% of the standard Distributor shop rate. Parts will be reimbursed at Lombardini USA Inc. list price, less 25%.
Dealers- Labor will be reimbursed at a rate equivalent to 100% of the full Dealer shop rate. Parts will be reimbursed at Lombardini USA Inc. list price, less 25%.
OEM Dealers- Labor will be reimbursed at a rate equivalent to 100% of a pre-established Nationally based rate. Parts will be reimbursed at Lombardini USA Inc. list price less 20%.
Warranty
Claim Flow
All claims for warranty reimbursement must be received within 30 days of the engine repair. Claims received after the 30 day time period will be subject to rejection.
Regardless of the repairing organization (Distributor, Dealer, OEM Dealer), all warranty claims must be funneled through the Distributor. That is, only the Authorized Distributor for the given local area is authorized to submit warranty claims to Lombardini USA Inc. The Dealer or OEM Dealer must submit to the controlling Distributor all claims of warranty. The Distributor should then check the warranty claim for proper form and subsequently submit the claim to Lombardini USA Inc.
Every effort will be made by Lombardini
USA Inc. to process warranty claims within 30 days of receipt.
Following warranty reimbursement of the Distributor, the Dealer or OEM Dealer will be reimbursed by the Distributor.
Warranty reimbursements will be in the form of a credit to the Authorized Distributor account. Under no circumstances will direct payment be remitted for warranty reimbursement.
