Working remotely
You can
easily access Frontier's Intranet from your home, or anywhere with an Internet
connection.
Please make sure you have a working, up-to-date antivirus program before you connect. We currently use Sunbelt Software's Vipre, which is a good choice for home systems too.
Initial setup:
To create a VPN connection from Windows XP
If you wish to send Internet email using Outlook Express while connected, change your Sendmail server setting (below)
Sendmail Server Setting
When connecting
directly to the Internet (outside of the office) you need to make some
changes:
Taking Your Laptop On The
Road
Before you leave the office make sure you have all the latest
information on your laptop:
You will need to change your Sendmail server setting to send Internet email using Outlook Express. (You don't need to do this if you are using Webmail). You then set this back once you are back in your home office.
Taking Your Laptop to a Different Branch
To set up to help your computer operate effectively at the new branch:
1. Install printers for the new branches printers. Click Start > Run.
Type in the name of the local server, preceded by two slashes. e.g. \\deserver
\\edserver \\caserver or \\wserver
- double-click the printer you want to
install
2. When out of your home office, use Webmail to send and receive email. Details below. Alternatively, you can use Outlook Express to receive email. You will then need to change your Sendmail Server Settings in order to send mail.
Most users can access their email from any web browser anywhere--including your home, an Internet cafe or library. First you need to find out from Geoff or Daniel how to access your email, as different accounts use different servers.
Most people use webmail.frontierpower.com
a few people use webmail.primesignal.com
webmail.frontierpower.com
-
userID is your full email address (xxy@frontierpower.com)
webmail.primesignal.com
- Find out your userID by looking at the
vendor account for NetNation. It's probably something like
"fel14@primesignal.com". Then click on webmail.primesignal.com put in your
userID and password.
The password for all email accounts is "hello678"
Shop wireless connections
All shops
have, or soon will have, wireless access points. Their SSIDs are InternetOnly
(and InternetOnly2 in Delta). As you might imagine, these only connect to the
Internet.
To connect to Frontier's internal system, you would have to initiate a VPN connection, just like at home.
The encryption type is WPA, and the passphrase is easy to remember "WeLoveFrontier".
Apple iPod Touch mail settings
Apple's iPod Touch works well to send and retrieve Frontier email. Set it to "never delete messages" on the server, and you will be able to see all messages in Webmail or on your computer when you get back in the office.
To set up inbound mail:
settings > mail
- auto-check - your
choice. Hourly works
- preview - 2 lines
- sending: always BCC myself -
"on"
- signature: (your name)
