How to use the Discussion Board |
..updated Oct 17/05 |
---|
Email discussions get complicated once several people get involved. The Discussion Board is a place where multiple people can post their comments about a particular issue.
Starting a new discussion
The person who starts the discussion
is the moderator. The moderator chooses the title of the discussion, and
can restrict the discussion to specific people. People
not on this list cannot see the discussion at all. The moderator's options are
at the bottom of the discussion, and can be edited any time.
Adding comments
Just click on the 'Add your comment' link.
Once a comment is posted, it cannot be changed or edited. So think before you
write.
Deleting a discussion
If you make a mistak--like accidentally
starting a new discussion--here's how to delete it.
First, make the topic invisible to everyone else. (Hide your mistakes!) As you created the topic, you are the moderator. So you can enter names into the "Restrict discussion" field. Put "nobody" into this field. (Actually you can put anything into this field. As soon as this field is not empty, the discussion is restricted to those names listed. As "nobody" is not a name, then only "nobody" can see this discussion.) Second, the moderator (you) can delete a topic at any point by changing the title to: **delete This entire discussion will be deleted during the overnight processing.
To restrict the discussion to specific
individuals
Want to restrict who can see this discussion? Check their
names.
Note the the shop and 'public' computers have multiple users--so if you include one mechanic in that branch, all the others will be included.
